I am finding that most of the coupons offered are for items that I don't use. Anyone have and ideas about finding coupons that everyday ordinary people would utilize? We also over spend on our grocery budget. DH is one of those that thinks that unless it is a "name brand", it isn't worth buying. I am slowing showing him that this isn't always the case. Thanks for your help.
MOST, yes, but if there is one or two that you can use then you are ahead. I buy only the Sunday paper every week for $1 just for the coupons. I always get my money back and then some, especially considering my store DOUBLES coupons.
Check in your community for coupon swapping clubs where you can exchange coupons with others.
It takes practice to really get good at coupon savings, but done right you can save 30%-50% or more of your grocery bill.

I hate coupons just because they make me spend more if I'm not really on my toes! I am lucky because I shop at a Military commissary and they tend to have a lot of coupons right there with the product especially in the dairy area. My son gets the Sunday paper free so he saves out the coupons for me and I look through them after I have my once a month grocery list made up and only clip the ones I will have that month. I usually save $20 by doing this. I don't use very many of the coupons but it is worth my while to look through and take the ones I will actually be using.

One way to help with this is if he does not go shopping with you to go ahead and buy the off brand and fix the food. Don't tell him that you used an off brand. He wont notice the difference. For some they think it has to be of a lesser quality because it isn't a name brand. Fortunately this is something I can do because I usually fix the food before the hubby get's home and clean up all of the items so he doesn't have a clue if it was name brand or not.

I am still getting back into the coupon swing, as it will just be two of us on our own again in about 4 months. Budgeting and careful planning for sales and stockpiling we do plan on keeping our food/household supplies budget around $200 - lots of excellent ideas in this thread!
Unfortunetly, he IS the one who does most of the shopping, as I am limited as to how long I can stand. I am "slowly" convincing him that name brand isn't always better.
My DH used to insist on name brand but once I got a case of Raggity Ann Peaches at Aldi's and he tried them and went crazy! He realized they were much better than name brand. He has since came to understand that some off brands are ripe foods that name brand cannery's don't care to deal with. Ripe foods taste much better! He now supports us as we prepare to grow and preserve all our own foods because it will be chemical free and ripe when preserved.
Good News!! Hubby and I shopped last night ... together... I was able to convince him that some store brand items were as good or better than name brand. He's learning... LOL. And speaking of the differences between name brand and store brand, I have noticed that Wal-mart brand tomato sauce is a much better bargain than name brand, ANY name brand. The ratio of tomato product to water, is incredible. If you pick up a can of name brand, and a can of Great Value, and shake them, you will see what I mean. I successfully converted DH, with this one, at least.... this particular product anyway... LOL.
