I got PC tools off of CNET downloads. It is free and

it has kept all the virus's off. I've tried others but

the virus' returned and this one has been doing well.

Default virus protection...any safe and free ones???? What do you use???

Isn't this a real hassle? Would like to throttle those hacker types

who get joy out of making our lives miserable and corporations

recovery costly.

Anyway, rant aside, I also use AVG Free Edition and have been very

pleased with it. But you can't just stop there nowadays. I'd suggest

that you read KRC Internet Security at

http://www.greyknight17.com/internet_security.php for some "rules of

the road" regarding keeping your computer secure. Kevin also has links

to the best download sites for the free antivirus, firewall,

antispyware, etc., programs.

Following his recommendations, weekly I also run free editions of

AdAware SE Personal Edition (can download from CNET's

<a href="http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5">http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-...045910.html?p\

art=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5</a>)

and Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html) to check

for spyware problems.

Another way to obtain free software is to watch out for the special

rebate offers that occur often at the office supply stores for the

namebrand/popular antivirus and antispyware software programs. In

March Staples offered a deal with McAfee Internet Security whereby you

could get the new product free after rebate or even make money. I made

$15 on the deal after all was said and done, have received all rebates

with no problem, and have a new version of the program that will be

good for 1 year when I load it. (Don't have WinXP on my home computer

so will be installing on my parent's when I visit this week.) Always

check out the free offers at Staples, Office Depot, Office Max. They

are frequent and save a lot of money.

Stay secure!
