Reward for saving
Posted 03-08-2009 at 07:18 AM by wilbe95
Since January 1, I have been putting money in an envelope for all of the savings that I have using coupons at the store. If it is a B1G1 then the full amount of the free item will go into the envelope. My envelope is labeled "Shopping Savings". I have also taken $25 each week and faithfully put that in an envelope that envelope is labeled "My Reward".
After nine weeks of saving up and watching sales, yesterday we were able to buy a Wii, an extra controller, and the Wii Fit bundle!
I have been watching and wanting this for some time. Just have not been able to validate that expensive of a purchase to myself.
This past week was stressful one on the hubby. He works nine hours, five days a week and is on call 24/7. Most of the calls he gets is during the middle of the night so he never really gets a "good" sleep. He doesn't get much exercise. After working all day and knowing he will get calls he doesn't feel like doing much of anything once he gets home. Well that is after also helping to run boys here there and everywhere. Most nights we have to be in two places at the same time so he will take at least one of the boys to their thing while I am running the others. Normally he doesn't have much of a temper, but this week he hit his breaking point and blew up at work and walked away with an instant migraine and some chest pain. This was his wake up call that he isn't 20 anymore and needs to de-stress more often. He holds things in then blows over something minor.
So I validated my purchase! We need it for health. What a fun way to get the exercise and not even realize you are doing it.
My envelopes are on the empty side but I will start again this week of putting the savings back in. Wonder what my next reward will be?

What a great idea!!! I like the idea of putting back the money you save with coupons, never thought to do that. And then you got a reward for all you savings, really great. I hope that your DH starts to feel better after using the Wii a few times.

Kim - years ago, my Mother used tp keep a jar on the fridge. Every week, after grocery shopping, she put the money she saved with coupons in it. It was amazing how quick it filled up.

Congratulations! That is AWESOME! I think you'll love the wiifit, it is really funny, lots of amusing comments tossed in. I haven't had a chance to use ours for a few weeks now- between traveling for work, yard work, canning, etc. It's a blast, especially when the kids make their Mii's -
