No black belt today :(

We survived TaeKwonDo testing!!!! Tired beyond words today. We had to be at testing at 5:30pm we finally got home at 11:45pm, then had to take the babysitter home-rules for the gym are that no students can attend a black belt testing. So the youngest could not go and glad the nine year old didn't go-way to long. Worse part is that even though it was close to 1:00am before I finally got into bed, at 4:00am I was wide awake!
My Alex did not pass last night, so hard to work non stop for five hours and walk out without that belt. Good news is that the only thing he missed was one board break. But after five hours your legs just do not work like you want them to. Alex is a goofball a lot of the times, keeps me on my toes, but he was so impressive last night. After a full day at school, just a snack before testing-if you eat you can get a rather upset stomach, and five hours of drilling, and hard work he had such a huge smile on his face.
He will get to try his board break in three weeks but he does have additional requirements from the instructor. Alex is my one who doesn't try hard in school and the instructor knows this. Part of being a black belt for this gym is that they have to have good grades and try their best in all they do. Alex has to bring in an updated grade sheet from his teachers at school stating that he has done his best over the next three weeks or he will not receive his black belt and have to go through the full five hour testing again in the spring.
I am not happy about him maybe having to go through re-testing, that is just cruel to do to me (selfish I know), but I agreed
if it will make him turn his homework in guess it is worth it. His future depends on his school work. Just hope it works.

I feel your pain. My boys and I are also in Tae Kwon Doe, and all level of belts have to show up at 5:30 to start testing. Usually the Green Belts (that is me and my youngest) are there for 2 1/2 to 3 hours of testing. My two oldest just received 4th degree brown and they tested for 5-6 hours, just for a stripe. All well, as long as they enjoy it--I guess that is all that matters!!!
