Money makes you stupid

Posted 11-07-2009 at 08:41 AM by wilbe95
I know goofy title but what can I say having extra money coming in has really made me stupid the past couple of months. I have gotten two paychecks and I am spending the money long before it even comes and not on the bills like I said that I would.

How did this dawn on me, well yesterday I decided to go through the few boxes of Christmas present items I have gotten over the last several months, sort them as to who will be getting what then going ahead and wrapping up and boxing to mail. That is when the reality sunk in that I have one more paycheck coming before the holiday's. I get paid once a month. I have about half of the list of people finished up for the holiday's and their items are wrapped and ready to go which is great. Now to finish up all the others.

I have gotten stupid the past few months by not worrying about the menu, thinking when I buy at the store and planning ahead. Why because I had the money. So if I decided that I didn't want to cook no biggy just run out and buy something already made, less stress and time. Boy do they nickle and dime you!

All hope is not gone. Since I have woke up and see my mistakes I can correct them. So first thing I did this morning was shop in the freezer. I haven't shopped for freezer items in some time so really did not have a clue what was in there. I have more than enough food for the week so made out a menu and will spend today preparing some of the food items for the week. There will be no going out for food. I will make a run to the store (by myself) today for the staples-milk etc. I will be making breads and snack items for the week at home out of the pantry. I will be going through the coupons which I have not done since August. Most will be expired but I know that I have coupons that I could have used but I just didn't bother to go through them before I went to the store.

I balanced out the checkbook this morning also and would you believe that my first thought was I have $$$ this amount what do I want to spend it on. Oh how stupid of me I was going to use it for luxury items (well you know what I mean those items I want but can live without). That was when it dawned on me as I was thinking what can I get for me and then glanced at the calendar and realized that I have to finish up the holiday's get food yet for the holiday's and realized that I have gotten greedy with the extra money.

Realization is the first step, when you get frustrated because you can't just go get what ever it is you want because you need the necessities and to pay the bills it is time for a slap in the face wake up call. So now back to the frugal ways, we survived all summer without the extra money and happy with what we had. My greed has gotten in the way and I want want want.

So tell me has having money made you stupid too?

Oh yes! 4 months of not a penny coming in and then the flood gates open and money flowing great. Stupid is how you start off every time! Thankfully we seem to revive and take charge again before we get to far! And I feel stupid each and every time it happens!

I swear our lives must mirror each other......LOL
We go so long between paychecks and I get really good at living frugally. Then when the check comes in everything I've learned seems to go right out the window!!

I'm so bad with money. I try to stay really tight and stringent with my money but in the end it tends to all disappear on silly things I never really needed instead of food or savings. Or those little crisises come up where you need to use a little here and there to fix the problem (Broken phone or ran out of minutes sort of deals with me) When I had extra money I would really spend it stupidly. I'm glad I'm not the only one.
