Looking for the rainbow

I am home today have one with a cold. So on days like this sometimes my mind wonders
.
I seen a post that made me think about the way people look at life. Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Is you cup half full or half empty?
I have my moments that the cup is very half empty but I try not to dwell there I prefer to think of it as half full.
Heck even with the one sick briefly I had the thought that "if you get your little brother sick before his surgery I will hurt you" but then it passed, not his fault he got sick, there are so many things floating around the school right now, strep throat, pink eye, colds, stomach flu, seasonal flu and of course the H1N1. He has just a cold. Hope the fever will be gone today so he feels better.
Even when I heard that the youngest had to have surgery again my heart sunk, why. Then after a little bit I was asking the doctor "If we let it go would it keep him from catching the bugs floating around?" One side of his nose is plugged shut should make it less likely to contract something right, but nope doctor laughed and said nice thought but doesn't work that way. Oh well I tried.
I don't watch much news any more. All they seem to focus on is the negative. I would rather read my news online then I can decide what I read and can skip over the negatives.
Money will be tight for the next couple of months. We have been in the process of redoing rooms with wood laminate flooring. Was not planning on progressing quite like we have but we have one room completely finished and have another room half way done. Then two more rooms to do. We are removing all of the carpeting in the house. I am hoping that it will help keep the youngest healthy after the surgery. But with the cost of doing the rooms plus the surgery expenses not to mention holiday's coming up money will get tighter by the day. All of our family lives out of state and we will have to mail the items for the holiday's. Does this depress me, maybe it should and I shouldn't continue to spend the money like I am but yet I know that even if changing the floors doesn't help the youngest that it will look a million times better and be a whole lot easier to clean so it is worth every penny. Same with the surgery, three surgeries in a year is a lot and very expensive but he will be able to breath again easier soon and even if it doesn't last at least for a few months he will sleep peacefully, talk clearer, and have energy like he hasn't had for awhile. This is so worth every penny.
I try to avoid people who look at the negative side of life. No matter what problem you are facing you can find something positive in it. Kind of like looking for the rainbow after the storm. There is always one but do you find it do you even take the time to look for it or do you dwell on the gray clouds? Look for the rainbow it makes life so much more enjoyable.

I agree every rainbow has a silver lining -to bad there was not gold at the end -lol -we could all use a little . My thought is that no matter how bad things seem ,there is always some thing good.Take good care of that son his surgery will be over before you know -I will keep him and your family in my prayers - take care and I will keep my eye out for the rainbow !!

Dear Wilbe95, Oh my goodness, I think we all feel overloaded more often than we care to admit. By our nature, women, we are caregivers, and we know we have to be strong. It's okay to let it out sometimes, with a great friend, to God, but it is always better to let off steam with someone who is strong and has a positive outlook. Life isn't full of fairy tale happy endings, but we can decide if we want to be happy and be open to every opportunity to receive good things in our life. Sounds like you have two children, and they are a blessing in your life. My husband and I were only able to have one and coming from a family a 5 kids, I always wanted to have lots of kids around. Enjoy the good times, roll with the punches and breathe, breathe, breathe! Every morning when you wake up ask for strength and when your head hits the pillow after a very long day, says thanks and remember what a good job you did that day. I will be thinking of you up here in Canada!

I love life! Even when it seems everything that could go wrong does, you still have your family and you just have to realize, no matter what life is good. DH & I were recently laughing about how very poor we were once upon a time and this summer's disaster made us feel like after all these years we were right back there! Of course we knew we'd make it this time. A basement full of food, and we knew his military pay would eventually get worked out. Life's ups and downs make it all worth in in the end. It keeps us from getting bored and helps us appreciate the good times all the more!

I have to completely agree, look at the bright side of life (no matter how difficult it is to do!). It's awesome that you've been working on the house and redone your floors. (most of'em).. I LOVE having hardwood or laminate flooring. It made a HUGE difference in the kids health and in the amount of colds/flu that the entire household gets in a year.
I am not a fan of carpeting at ALL anymore. Although, that's easier said living in the South. Thanks for the post, it's nice to be reminded that we need to look at the brighter side of life once in awhile. |
