What does RSVP mean to you?

Posted 10-10-2009 at 12:17 PM by wilbe95
Of course we all have gotten an invitation with the words RSVP on them and a number sometimes with a date to RSVP by.

Guess I am old school, I was raised that if you received something with an RSVP you called no matter if you are going to go or are not going to go.

I have a birthday party coming up next weekend for my youngest and I am curious how to plan for attendance. So I would like to know, if you get an invitation with an RSVP do you call if you are going or do you call if you are not going?

I call regardless, thank them for the invite and let them know whether or not I'll (or we'll) be attending. That way they aren't left wondering . . .

I call or write them one way or the other but you are right to wonder. Most folks these days are so busy and they wonder if they can go or not and just don't bother letting you know. My niece had RSVP for her wedding reception and only 7 responded back but 187 actually attended! Makes it very hard to plan! Good luck!

I always respond to a RSVP request, usually by telephone so that the apology can be heard through my voice.

Sadly the literal translation of RSVP into the English Language is "respond if you please" and people are not shy about doing just that.

I agree with brchbell that it makes things very difficult to plan. I would give them a call and thank them but let them know you won't be attending.

I agree with FQ. I let them know one way or another.
