Make Your Own Bagels!
Posted 10-21-2008 at 05:00 PM by Liss
Sticker shock isn't just at the pumps these
days, the prices of food have become rather scary too! Recently on a trip to the store I saw that the prices of bagels ranged from $2.59-$4.60! Really, more than $4 for 6 bagels!
I wondered if they were filled with GOLD and Diamonds for that price.
Regardless, making your own bagels is not only considerably cheaper, but they are very simple to make and require little effort (my favorite kind of effort).
Step by Step Directions
Also, if you'd like to make these ahead of time and freeze them, simply follow the directions to the forming of the bagel, then freeze them on a tray. Once frozen, seal them in a baggie. To complete the recipe simply take them out the night before, let them thaw/rise and then bake as directed. (Skipping the boiling water bath).
This method will result in a crispier crusted bagel.

These directions make these sound so easy. I am going to have to try this. Would you happen to have a recipe for homemade cream cheese to go with them? Also I am looking for a recipe for the muffins for mcmuffins. I know this is not the place to ask for these but thought I would throw it in there while I was commenting. Thanks for these great recipes as well as everything else you do.
