Decision making day

Posted 10-29-2009 at 12:58 AM by jody
Yesterday, I went to see my 1st opinion oncologist to see why her opinion differ from my second one's. After hearing the difference and she hearing my concerns about adding 3 solutions to my soon to be IV, I had to make up my mind where I was going to go to have treatment between 2 very well known and great hospitals. So today I decided to go with my 1st doctor that I saw but not her opinion about the 3 solutions. Adding the 3rd one, would only give me only more of a 4% chance of no reacurrence than only taking the 2. Plus the side effects were really awful. It could affect your heart down the road. Since heart trouble is in both my parent's family, I thought it best not to take the chance. Even if I did the 3, there is no guarantee that the cancer won't come back. She was OK with my decision. So next week, I will be doing chemo. Pls keep me in your prayers.

Prayers for sure!

Follow your heart, keep asking questions of the doctors and nurses. There is no easy way to get through the chemo as I have witnessed with family members.Rest assured that you will be kept in my thoughts here in Canada.

I think the most prepared patient is the one who asks questions and the best doctor out there is the one who is willing to listen to your questions and answer them with honesty. Keep asking, the more informed you are the better prepared you will be, the better prepared you are the better the treatment will go for you.

Stay strong, keeping looking to the future and rest when you need it. Don't lose hope, there will be nasty rough days but knowing that those days are helping can help you to overcome this. I will keep you in my thoughts and wish for a quick recovery from your treatments.

Dear Jody, please try to keep us updated on how things are going. I know how hard it is to go through this! I've been battling cancer for almost 25 years. This last go round I refused treatment and left it in the hands of the Lord. I felt impressed to change our diet to no simple sugars or starches. To go with 100% whole grains and make everything from scratch. 2 years later I'm not only still here but functioning very well. I figure when it's my time the Lord will call me home. My children love our new diet. They first thought the home made taco shells would be terrible and after trying them they grind up corn and make them all the time and use them to dip and use as chips! Remember we are all praying for you! Follow your heart and make up your own plan to follow after hearing all the facts. Oh I know how hard it is and so confusing on which plan to go with! God be with you!
