Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (on May 25, 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action. Thank-You...............

I will be spending the weekend doing flag ceremonies. The boys Scout groups will be placing flags at the cemetary and around town then attend a Memorial Day ceremony. One gets to place flags at the Veterans Memorial in town-such an honor only one scout group gets to do it and they rotate which group each year. Then we will help take down all of the flags and package the ones that will be retired on Flag Day which is another function we always attend.
