I'm buying a pool!

I've decided to take the plunge!!! We have been promissing the kids a pool for 3 years now and we still don't have one.(hubby's been the one promising and procrastinating.
Our backyard has been dirt for the last 8 years. First we couldn't have a dog till the yard was done. What do ya know Grandma brought us one anyway 2 1/2 years ago. The yard still isn't done but he did have to re-do the fence. That was finished real soon after we got the dog. Keep in mind he's not lazy in the least. He works very hard to take care of us. When he's not working there isn't any money to do what needs to be done to get the yard done. Something else more important always comes up.
Now it's summer and 106 degrees for the last few days. He's always on the kids to stop watching tv but it's just to dang hot to do much else. We all need the excersice.
Toys r us had a good intex metal frame pool on sale till july 4th. If I don't just go and get it I know we'll never get one. He can't do the yard for a few months anyway because it's just too hot for new sod. We can take it down when he's ready to dig for the sprinklers.
I'll feel him out on the idea tonight. If I get the kids up early preparing the yard with me he can swim in it when he gets home from work. How can he be upset!
I figured out my paycheck will be enough for the pool and mine is always the check that goes for extras since I only work part time at the school. The kids are donating their toys r us gift cards they have been saving from their birthdays to help.
Sometimes there is no stopping me when i get and Idea in my head. I'll find a way to make it all work out. Wish me luck....

Yes, sometimes you just gotta go for it! You sold me when you said the kids are donating to the cause also! Hope it all works out for you! We bet the heat today having canoe/paddle boat races on our lake and then kids jumped into the lake clothes, shoes and all! Sometimes after a hard days work you just gotta get crazy and have some fun!

We bought one last year. I did the same thing you did, wondering if hubby would go for the idea or not. When I told him that we wanted one, he said lets go price one then. It was very exciting. You'll enjoy your pool, they are great to have. I still don't have mine set up yet, but I well next week. Have fun swimming.

Congrats! I don't know what you're planning on using for pool chem's but I have a suggestion... We bought one of the steel frame intex pools (24') too and I bought the Intex Saltwater system (They're about $285 or so). It is AWESOME. It's beyond awesome. We tried tons of different things over the years, baquacil, chlorine systems, etc. They all cost way over $300 a year. We've had the saltwater system for 2 years now and it costs us less than $40 a year to run the entire season (March 25- November 30th).
How it works is, you put a certain # of lbs of salt (based on the size of your pool) and the salt dissolves. The saltwater system creates a chemical reaction and turns the salt into chlorine- but without a chlorine smell, or the effects of chlorine (aka Green Hair, faded bathing suits, etc). The water isn't salty at all, not like ocean. It's actually less salty than tears. As a matter of fact, the kids swim underwater with their eyes open all the time and they don't even get redness. You never have to add more salt because it doesn't evaporate, only more water to your pool. We have ours on a timer, it runs 3 hours a night and the pool pump itself runs 4 hours a day. The water is Always Crystal clear. I absolutely Love ours and would recommend it highly for cost-effective pool management. Once again, congrats on your pool! |

I have heard you can use Borax , Salt, Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide in a pool to have chemical free. Does anyone know about these products and how would you use them? Congratulation on your pool.
